HRX5000 proximity terminal

The HRX5000 proximity terminal includes functionality to provide access control of up to two doors, barriers or turnstiles. Up to two separate remote proximity readers can be connected. There are two separate relays available to control the power to a door lock or to trigger a barrier or turnstile. The HRX5000 does not directly supply power to a door lock. This must be supplied from a suitably rated power supply. The relays in the HRX5000 are used to switch the power to the lock. Press-to-exit buttons can be connected to provide a timed trigger of each relay. Also, up to two door sensors can be connected to monitor if a door has been left open over a predefined period of time.

  • Designed to integrate with the Focus Pro software
  • Uses reliable TCP, RS232 or RS485 communications
  • Connections for up to 2 readers per terminal
  • Cotag, PAC, Paxton and Mifare readers all supported
  • Can control up to 2 separate doors
  • Inputs for Door monitoring
  • Dedicated printer output
  • Scaleable; add to existing Focus systems easily

Operation

The validation of the access control is configured via the Focus Pro software. As a brief explanation, employees are assigned to access groups. The access group will determine which doors all of the members of the group have access to as well as what times they can access those doors and on which days of the week. These rules and doors can be written to or read from the software and sent to or read from the terminals. This enables a flexible way of distributing the configured doors and associated access rules between terminals.

Several enhancements have recently been added to our access control solution. The latest HRX5000 firmware, PCB and Focus Pro software include a number of new access control features:

To provide a simple method of allowing global access to specific doors, an Access Rule for Group 99 can be defined. This will allow any registered card/fob to be granted access during the times and days set up in the rule (Anti-Passback timer is disabled on Group 99).

When using the new Version E of the HRX pcb, an HID reader will make the following beeps corresponding to the reason for denying access:

  • 1 Beep - rules don't allow access
  • 2 Beeps - within anti passback time
  • 3 Beeps - badge not recognised
NOTE: The sounder wire (Yellow) on the HID reader must be connected for this to function.

The HRX terminal has improved functionality when a second person presents their card while following someone else through the door. The lock timer is restarted when the second card is presented and the LED on the reader goes red and then back to green to indicate a valid transaction.

Within the Access Control rules, a Door Name field is now available to help identify different doors. This is an improvement over the current method where doors are identified by Clock ID and Relay number. The Door Names are held in the Focus database, not in the clocks.

Each Slave terminal now holds a copy of the Door Definition for its own two relays. It is actually updated when a transaction is made at the slave terminal.

Each Door Definition within the Access Control rules now has a Door Polarity setting of Failed Locked (fail secure) or Failed Open (fail safe). This can be useful dependant on the type of door and lock being used in a particular location.

Other Equipment

exit button

Push-to-Exit button

A simple sprung push-button used to release the lock for a pre-configured amount of time. Available in various sizes and styles.

emergency break-glass switch

Emergency Break-glass Switch

Used to provide a means of unlocking the door from the inside without the reliance on electronic circuitry. Upon breaking the glass, the internal switch is opened and the power to the lock is dropped. With few exceptions, we always insist on installing such a device to every controlled door.

electric key switch

Electric Key Switch

In case of malfunction or damage to the equipment, a Key Switch can be installed to provide an alternative means of unlocking the door from outside. This is normally only required if there is no other method of accessing the inside of the door - where the system can be disabled.

electric locks

Electric Lock

Electric locks are available in many formats including Rim Locks, Magnetic Locks and Shear Locks. Depending upon type, a lock can be either fail open (fail safe) where constant power is required to hold the lock closed, or fail closed (fail secure) where power is only required to open the lock. Please contact us to discuss the most suitable lock type to fit to each individual door.

battery backed power supply

12V Power Supply

The HRX5000 does not directly supply power to a door lock. This must be supplied from a suitably rated power supply. We also recommend that the HRX terminal itself is powered by a 12V 2A battery backed power supply. Please contact us to discuss the most suitable solution for your particular requirements.

Employee Access Cards & Fobs

All personnel using the access control system must have a card or fob. Depending upon your requirements, we can supply the cards or fobs suitable for your system. HID ProxCard® II clamshell cards are of the highest read range but are thicker than standard credit cards. However, we can supply stick on labels for these cards that can be printed on. HID ISOProx II cards are standard credit card size and can be printed on using a compatible card printer. HID ProxKey II fobs are for attaching to keyrings or lanyards. We can also supply HID MicroProx tags stickers to affix to existing cards or badges.

Installation, Training and Support

As part of the solution, we can also provide:
