The Hand Punch 1000 biometric hand reader is manufactured by Ingersol Rand and has sold in large numbers throughout the world, including major UK high street retail chains, hotels, factories, building contractor sites and offices. To enable the use of the Hand Punch terminal in certain circumstances e.g. a large building site where cable connections are impossible, we have packaged it together with a power supply and GPRS modem all fitted neatly to a board which requires just the one power outlet for it to function.

Handpunch Clocking Station

The HandPunch Station uses the popular HandPunch range of terminals and together with a power supply and GPRS modem combines to give an effective biometric clocking system for use with the Focus Time & Attendance software. This package can be easily installed or moved to a different location simply by plugging it into or unplugging it from the wall.

As long as there is sufficient signal the system will work with any data enabled SIM card. The HandPunch terminal is simply added to the Focus Time & Attendance software using the IP address provided by the mobile phone network being used.

It is even possible to use the station (GPRS Modem, Power Supply and Backboard) with an existing Handpunch. If you already have a Handpunch terminal and would like the station, please contact us for details.

Biometric Clocking Technology

Because the Hand Punch measures the shape and height of the hand, rather than scanning finger or palm prints, the biometric hand reader can cope with dirty hands, cuts and abrasions and even plasters on fingers. This means the Hand Punch can be used in environments where other biometric clocking machines may struggle to perform consistently.

There are also facilities to allow people with damaged hands or missing fingers to use the Hand Punch ensuring that it's a suitable device for your entire workforce.

Portability

The HandPunch Station offers a portable solution for those who require the security of a biometric reader but do not want to incur the work and/or cost of installation. Because it has just one mains plug and is secured to the wall via four screw holes, it is simple to move it to a different location with minimal fuss.

GPRS

The Focus software communicates with the HandPunch Station using a GPRS modem and so a data enabled SIM card can be used utilsing the mobile phone network. The only limitation is mobile phone coverage in the area it is to be used.

Installation

The HandPunch Station is fitted to wall by four screws, one in each corner. However, it is possible to use more if the need is identified. The only external connection is a mains lead which will need to be plugged in nearby.

Power Supply

Because the HandPunch Station is preconfigured, all equipment on the board can be powered by a single mains outlet. As the station is fitted with a keyswitch, the Handpunch and GPRS modem can be re-booted without turning off the power.

Battery Backup

There is a low voltage battery isolator - this prevents the battery from being fully discharged - maintaining its life expectancy. It also means the unit could be removed for storage / re-location without needing to open the PSU and remove the battery leads.

Location

Because the hand reader uses optical technology there are some consideration to be made when considering its location. The Hand Punch should not be placed in an area where it is exposed to direct sunlight. This could affect the unit's ability to reliably identify employee hands.

The Hand Punch has a minimum operating temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. So the Hand Punch is no suitable for outdoor or cold environments unless a heating device can be installed to raise the local ambient temperature. There is no heating device fitted to the HandPunch Station.

Maintenance

The Hand Punch benefits from regular cleaning. Cleaning should be done using an alcohol free wipe or a clean lint free cloth. Window / glass cleaner can be used but do not spray onto the hand reader directly - instead spray onto a cloth.
